today, my school hosted an exhibit for suicide awareness day. the exhibit included 1,100 backpacks in representation of the number of lives that are lost to mental illness each year on college campuses. many of these backpacks were donated by the families that lost loved ones and had their stories attached. i’m so proud of my school for bringing attention to such a serious issue.

    this matters so much.

  5. To Thine Own Self Be True

"This above all; to thine own self be true." (Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 3.) Faced with a choice that will change not only the course of his life, but that of the wizarding world, who can Regulus Black turn to?

A sharp knock at the door resounded through the quiet house. Andromeda Tonks set down her book and pulled out her wand. Dora, sitting in front of the fireplace, was completely unaware and quite content to continue playing with the blocks her grandparents had given her.

With a quick glance to the clock, Andromeda steeled her nerves and crept towards the door. The visitor knocked again, this time more urgent.

“Who’s there?” Andromeda called out, praying that her voice wouldn’t crack.

There was a pause, filled by the blustering winds of fall, before a voice carried through the door, “It’s me, it’s Reggie.”

Rabastan Lestrange is Sixteen years old and in the house of Slytherin. He’s been told he looks awfully like Nico Tortorella and is Open.

Rabastan Lestrange was obviously not his brother, and everyone knew that. From a young age he knew that his parents would never look or speak to him as they did Rodolphus and that was where his rebellious nature started. Through dinners and galas while Rodolphus was the perfect child, Rabastan would be the one pulling a prank to get at least some fun out of the night or try to do something impressive and snog the girl that caught his eye at the moment. The boy is living in the moment, he isn’t looking ahead at what responsibilities lies in his future, right now he’s a student and he thinks he can do whatever he wants and gets whatever that interests him in the slightest.

As expected Rabastan was placed into Slytherin and though he carries similar traits as his housemates and gets along with a majority of them, he’s more carefree then practically all of them. He’s known to drink, smoke, skip class; all the characteristics of a typical bad boy and one that girls should stay away from. Doesn’t stop him in getting girls to do what he wants, though on the subject of romance Rabastan is pretty positive its not for him. He’s accepted that he’s probably going to be set up for an arranged marriage but that doesn’t stop him in trying to delay that as long as possible.

Even though he doesn’t like to think about his family or future and puts on a persona that he literally doesn’t care about life; Rabastan is set on living life as a death eater and proving to his brother that he has what it takes. After all, joining the ranks is what he was born to do, even if his beliefs on the war are starting to differ.

Andromeda is a Black through and through, a fact that is clear to everyone. Raised in a house that thrived on blood supremacy, she learnt from a young age that it was much simpler to agree with her family than oppose them. If she ventured outside to play in the mud, her mother would lock her in her room for days on end and if she spoke out of turn, it would be more trouble than it was worth. Being a respectable young girl eventually came easily to her and though she didn’t understand why they cared so much about blood status, she quickly learnt that it didn’t matter as long as it benefited her. It didn’t matter that her Bellatrix was renowned for her bullying of these alleged mudbloods at Hogwarts and she didn’t care that the word seemed to roll so effortlessly off her own tongue. After all, it was no skin off her back, in fact, it guaranteed a life of luxury.

It was hardly a surprise when she was sorted into Slytherin, she was a Black after all and she hardly exhibited traits of any other house throughout her childhood. She was undoubtedly clever in both mindset and academics, but that was something she preferred to keep to herself. Spending the first few years in Bella’s shadow, it allowed her to do as she pleased, though she was sure to uphold the family reputation. She expressed her distaste at the scum they let into the school and made her fair share of scornful comments towards them. Muggleborns didn’t bother her, but she learnt over the years that if she was to live with blood supremacists, it was time she started acting like one.

Entering her final year at Hogwarts, Andromeda barely put up with her housemates the previous year as they grew more insufferable by the day. The boys were preparing to join the Dark Lord and the girls falling into arranged marriages like nobody’s business. Andromeda is aware that she has few redeeming traits, though one of them is her independence, despite her mother never seeing it as such. She knows her time is running out and there’s not a lot she can do about it. The concept of an unfulfilling marriage frightens her, but it’s not something she’ll fight. She doesn’t doubt that she’ll do what’s in her best interest.

    • Though Andromeda doesn’t care much for Bellatrix, she’s awfully protective over her younger sister Narcissa Black, similarly with her closest friend Emma Vanity.
    • Whenever she makes a particularly nasty comment directed to muggleborns, Ted Tonks will always be the first to comment, she despises him, but she can’t help admire him for it.
    • Andromeda spent a great deal of time with her cousin Sirius Black as a child, she admired his bravery overall. She’d swore she’d never treat him as family again after he left, but sometimes she’ll nod upon seeing him, just to remind him that doesn’t hate him.

    Andromeda's Betrayal

You are no sister of mine!” She bellowed until her throat was sore; until her voice ran hoarse and she could scream no more. Each word thrust forward in a violent slash; each spell shooting from her wand furiously with no control, only pure rage. And she did not stop until every painting, every smiling portrait in the hallway, was torn to shreds and lying in a pile of ruins amongst the floor; much like herself.
